A Spoonful of Kindness…

Be kind. Stay kind. Random acts of kindness. Kindness makes the world go ‘round’. Most of us think of kindness as an attribute, a quality, a behavior that shows up as generosity, being considerate, or giving without expecting anything in return. But what if it’s more than that? What if we look at kindness as a type of energy? a frequency? a higher vibrational frequency? At its core, kindness is love in action. It is a spark of the divine that we can channel into positive change within ourselves and within others.

Being kind creates a ripple effect. The more of us who act in kindness, the more the ripple expands and if enough of us act in kind, I believe the ripple could expand into a tsunami that would truly change the consciousness of the world.

During difficult times, and especially right now with the growing divisiveness within our communities, I rely on kindness to get me through the day. It starts with me being kind to myself. This means starting my day with a positive intention and taking in feelings of gratitude. It means listening to my body, eating healthy foods, taking time to move, meditating, Reiki, yoga and getting enough sleep. It also means giving myself grace when I believe I have made mistake or perhaps have been unkind to someone else. It means loving myself flaws and all. And it means setting clear boundaries for how others may treat me.

For some, setting boundaries, having discipline and conveying hard truths may not seem kind but in reality, they are necessary for self-love to exist. When we love ourselves fully, we are able to fully love others. We are able to let go of judgements, come into forgiveness and know that each of us is connected, each of us is human and each of us is on our own journey to learn, grow and experience life.

We can also look at kindness from the perspective of acting kind even when we do not feel kind. Yes, when we find ourselves struggling with negative emotions, we can use kindness to help us move through to the other side. Acting kind towards others even if when we do not feel kind inside paves the way to positive possibility.

Think about what it means to someone else when you act in kindness…a smile, lending a helping hand and think about what it means to you when you receive kindness. Ask yourself what if I could embody kindness every day, what would that feel like, what would it take for me to be in that energy, to stay in that energy?

It is the holiday season, a season of giving and receiving and a perfect time to bring kindness into yourself and to everyone around you. Take this next month to embody kindness and set an intention to carry it with you for the days to come. Let the ripple, the tsunami, start with you right here, right now.
